On the edge

I'm hanging on the edge and not sure of what to do.
Your back is always to me with an arrow pierced through.

What once was a pure heart, that was so much in love with you,
and as I hang on the edge,
I wonder if it's true.

After years together, our love has reached its end.
Not only have I lost my love one,
but also my best friend.

As I stand here, on the edge and looking out across the sky,
that is fading and seems to end.

But in the mist and shades of grey,
I am still here, hanging on the edge.

A True Friend

People, being human, love to be with other people, they need them, they want to belong and to be liked, to be part of a mutually giving group of friends. But just being in such a group does not necessarily mean that each and every other member can be called a true friend.

The answer as to what is the definition of a friend has many more component parts and requires a far deeper connection than just being part of the gang. You may share common interests, lifestyles and much more, but if it goes no further than that, is it a friendship or a friendly acquaintanceship you share?

Throughout life, we will all meet people that we immediately like, trust and share much in common with. There is an old wisdom that suggests the numbers of such people can be counted on the fingers of one hand.

Look at those people you know and call friends, and after asking yourself whether these elements are present in your relationship, decide just who your real friends are.

When life changes happen, the real friend will not abandon you, nor will you abandon them - you stay in touch no matter what. The loving bond between a good friend and you is not easily broken, despite circumstances or different viewpoints - It is strong.

Why do we work hard?

There remains this enormous and wicked sociocultural myth. It is this: Hard work is all there is. Work hard and the world respects you. Work hard and you can have anything you want. Work really extra super hard and do nothing else but work and ignore your family and spend 14 hours a day at the office and make 300 grand a year that you never have time to spend, you sublimate your soul to the corporate machine and enjoy a profound drinking problem and sporadic impotence and a nice mini-mansion you never spend any time in, and you with your shiny BMW M6 Coupé will get into heaven.

Why do we dedicate so many of our waking and sometimes sleeping hours to our job, often to the cognizant exclusion of friends, family, and other loved ones? Most of us said we felt we have put in too many hours for a good work - life balance but, if we knew that, why carry on doing it? Was it just the protestant work ethic?

The main reason seemed to be job satisfaction . There is no satisfaction in doing a job badly so rather than be unsatisfied we chose to over work. If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing right. Is it worth working till you break down?

And what will the best solution? Like I’d know! However, being more fully aware of the options and consequences and asking the right questions is a good place to start. So, if we are overworked, ask the question "Why am I doing this?" Reasons like "Because I have to" isn’t a valid answer.

Although I already sound like an agony aunt and this will make it more so, if you are in a relationship and work is an issue then try and talk the questions through together. Nothing beats going back home to the people you love at the end of the day.

Make a promise to sit down to dinner with your family and love ones each night. Not only does this force you to break your work-focus, but it also means sitting down to a relaxed meal with the people who love and need you.

So, why do we work hard? When will be the time that we actually need to pull the plug and cool down a little?

Or should we just call it quit?

I will leave that to you.

It was never easy.

We enter relationships as somebody and leave them as nobody. A heart can be broken, but it will keep beating just the same.

Relationships end, but they don’t end your life. But people do often spend more time finding out about failed relationships than finding successful ones.

When the end of the day comes, if you really love someone, learn to set them free. If it comes back it’s yours, if not it wasn’t meant to be. Some of us think holding on makes us strong but sometimes it is letting go.

Look at a bigger picture. The pain experienced during a breakup is as individual as the millions of people who go through it. Never regret it anyhow. If it’s good, it’s wonderful. If it’s bad, it’s experience. Sometimes the best memories are the ones you have to lose.

"I may not know how to love you, I only know how to not let you go. It’s never an easy time for either party when a relationship ends. I will always love you and you will always be someone special to me. Till then, it is by God's will and our fate should our paths cross each other again."

The Meaning of Marriage

What is the meaning of marriage? Marriage is “The legal union of a man and woman as husband and wife.” In the modern world, however, this definition of marriage is simplistic at best. The meaning of marriage differs from one person to another, and from one time to another.

However, marriage is a vastly different thing. On the up side, marriage is today more of a gathering of equals, rather than the subjugation of one to the other. On the down side, marriage often becomes much more temporary than it has been in years past.

The meaning of marriage can be looked at from a legal perspective. Legally, marriage is a binding contract between the two parties that joins together their possessions, income, and lives. Marriage is recognized by the state, and the dissolving of the contract can only happen through the legal process of divorce.

Marriage is also an agreement between the man and woman. Husband and wife take certain vows, to love one another, to cherish one another, and to stay together through sickness and health, for better and for worse. In most cases, this agreement includes sexual faithfulness, and a promise that each person will do what they can to make the other one happy.

For some people, this agreement between man and woman takes the form of a covenant between not only the couple, but God as well. Thus, many marriages are performed within the rites of various churches and religious institutions.

As it always has, the meaning of marriage is changing as the times change. As society changes, the institution of marriage changes. These changes may or may not be a good thing; in the end, they are probably a little of both. The meaning of marriage, in the modern world, is in a bit of flux; when people do get married, they should make sure that they agree up front on what they mean by marriage.

Congratulations to both Jeffri and Leanne on their wonderful occasion.
